What velvet noise is

Velvet noise is a sparse noise made of single clicks, each one either up or down, placed at random moments on a steady grid. Audio designers use it in synthesis and reverb because it sounds smoother than white noise while using far fewer samples. At high click rates it feels soft and even, like velvet brushed against the grain; slowed down, it becomes a gentle crackle, like light rain on a window.

People play velvet noise while they work or study when white noise feels too sharp, to cover a noisy room with something softer, and as a quiet texture while they wind down at night. It is less common than brown or pink noise, which makes it a fresh choice for long listening.

This machine never loops a recorded file: it tunes its velvet noise to the day itself, the moon, the solar wind, the quakes, and lets it breathe, surfacing from silence and sinking back.
