What brown noise is

Brown noise is random sound where the low frequencies carry most of the energy. Each step up in pitch gets quieter, so the result is deep and heavy, closer to a waterfall, distant surf, or the rumble of a storm than to the hiss of static. It is named after Brownian motion, the random drift of tiny particles, not after the colour.

People play brown noise while they work or study, to cover a noisy room, office chatter, or traffic outside, and to wind down at night before they fall asleep. Its low, even rumble sits under other sounds without pulling attention to itself, which is why many listeners leave it on for hours.

This machine never loops a recorded file: it tunes its brown noise to the day itself, the moon, the solar wind, the quakes, and lets it breathe, surfacing from the deep and sinking back.
